Sleep iz Good!

Man, having these days off has allowed me to get some good sleep. Its amazing how getting plenty of sleep really works wonders. After 2 days of good sleep, I already feel much more recovered and rejuvenated. Usually my sleep seriously lacks due to some bad habits like eating late and then watching the evil TV at night. But after long days at work that start with a 5:30 AM wake-up, then a training ride after work and then any house duties, dinner is late and relaxing on the couch while we catch up on some DVR recordings is so hard to resist. I like to sleep in at least one day a week but with riding and weekend work, sometimes that doesn't happen. Plus, doing training rides being fully rested and recovered makes such a huge difference! Anyhow, did I mention that it's great to have Mark's family here? His wife Christina, her daughter Crystal, their son Lukas and Christina's cousin Kelly are here for the whole week. Good times...

Sports update: Fresno State pulls the shocker and wins the College World Series. The NBA Draft is tonight. The draft isn't as exciting for me anymore considering their aren't any Wildcats being drafted like I've been used to my whole life. They also made it so that high school players can't be drafted. Now you have more refined college players and a ton of foreign players that you've never heard of. At least seeing who the lottery picks are is interesting. The Cubs STILL have the best record in baseball and a nice 4.5 game lead in the division. Nice. Oh, horse trainer Rick Dutrow just got suspended for having a horse test positive. What a shady joker...

A few days off...

...from work. I took the rest of the week off to spend it with my brother Mark and his family. We have all kinds of stuff planned, or sorta planned. We do plan to do some bike riding considering that they all brought their bikes and last night we all went to Bicycles Etc to get Crystal a new bike. They all have Treks- solid. Anyhow, we are riding down to UNF in a bit to the lake to feed the turtles and check out the gators. Then maybe later we'll go to Hanna Park to do some trail riding and the kids can play at the water park. I still have a training ride to get done today that involves some intervals- fun times.

Few and far between

Man, my posting has sucked lately. First I started writing longer posts and including less pictures. Now I just don't do anything. Fun times! Anyhow, we've been busy with some house projects the last few weeks. In an effort to make our townhouse more guest friendly this summer, we sold all of the furniture from the 1st floor retreat, which was a living room / office and did some rearranging. We moved Avery's bedroom from the 3rd floor to this room and then bought all new furniture to outfit her old bedroom as a new guestroom, which is a duplicate of our master suite. Lots of work, lots of moving and lots of stairs! As if our legs weren't sore enough from training... Besides some final touches here and there and a few more things to sell, we are pretty much done.

I've still been riding my arse off, building volume. I really need to get on my mountain bike more often but I am hooked on my road bike. Granted my training dictates mostly road riding but I still need to get on the dirt at least once a week. It is cool though logging 7+ hours and 140 miles in a weekend on the road. My work load is going to increase from about 12 hours a week to 16 this summer. I can't wait!

My brother's family is staying with us this week. They got in last night from the long trip down from Kentucky. I took most of the week off so I'm sure we'll get into all kinds of stuff and I'll even dust off the camera and maybe get back on track in here...maybe...

Sports b Shady

Man, I need to get caught up on a little sports talk. Ok, so not only are the Cubs in first in the NL Central- but they have the best record in baseball. I'm not sure if I should get excited or just wait for it to crumble. Hell, I'll just enjoy it for now and hope for the best when fall rolls around. Hopefully Soriano won't be out too long with the broken wrist...

The NBA Playoffs are in full swing and possibly about to end. The playoffs have gone just as I expected, with LA and Boston matched up and Boston taking the title. The Celtics came back from 24 last night and stole one in LA to take a 3-1 lead. Kobe who? Jordan would not have let that happen on his home floor. Anyhow, the Celts could wrap it up Sunday in LA or take it in one of the last 2 games in Boston next week. Oh- I like the dudes at work who wear a different hat every year depending on who is in the finals or who the hot team is at the time. What is that?

Man, the whole triple crown thing turned out to be a major letdown. I was seriously hoping to see Big Brown win the Belmont and capture the Triple Crown. Not even close. With all the crap his trainer Dutrow was talking before the race and the whole cracked hoof deal, it sure was disappointing seeing jockey Kent Desormeaux pull him up during the race to finish last. Nobody knows what happened. Nobody. Or at least no one is admitting anything. But I'm sure somebody somewhere knows what happened and I bet they are rich now. Maybe. But did Big Brown run out of gas? Was it the effect of him being taken off steroids? Was it the hoof? Was the race fixed? Who knows. But there's too much shady stuff going on around this horse, like the trainer with a shady past and the shady owners, IEAH Stables and the shady use of steroids. I thought it was funny how Rick Dutrow was so arrogant and cocky leading up to Belmont, then didn't have a word to say after the race and then started finger pointing at the jockey when he did start talking. Dude, relax. Go away. I'm glad I won't have to hear anything from that jackass for a while...

You know, all sports seem to be affected by some type of cheating. I mean, are the NBA Playoffs fixed? I bet some games were. Now that former ref Tim Donaghy has been busted for betting on and fixing games, he's squealing like a pig saying that there's more people doing it and more games were fixed than anybody realizes. Is he telling the truth? Maybe. Is NBA commish David Stern doing a good job of damage control? Of course- he's got the whole DC thing down in his league. But I bet there's tons of sporting events that are fixed, like boxing. It's all shady. Sports scandals are running rampid these days. Just look at the condition of pro cycling lately or the cloud over the Tour de France the last few years. Shady. Steroids in baseball and football. Shady. But you know what, it's still entertainment.

Cheers to cheating!

NOT!
